Since Microsoft released a nes driver for this IDE Raid
controller and posted it on the windows update site, my
raid controller has not worked. i cant even revert back
to the original driver. the Device driver is constantly
downlaoding from the website and it fails to load.

Any one experiencing the same problems. I have a Asus
P4G8X DX board.

Why not get the drivers from Silicon's website instead?

Ravi

It is best practice to only use updates for hardware on the mainboard from
the manufacturer of the mainboard itself. This is to avoid potential
conflicts between the system BIOS and any general updates to hardware
drivers.

Asus mainboards are particularly sensitive to the version of the drivers
used with the Silicon Image controller. If you look closely at the info on
Silicon Image's website you'll see that they recommend the mainboard
manufacturer as the source for updates.

I haven't had to install an older version of the SATA drivers, despite
having the same Silicon Image controller (on a different mainboard), but you
should be able to re-install the older version of the SATA drivers by
inserting your Asus CD in the CD drive and following the instructions that
are contained in the readme.txt file on the Asus CD.

3-2) Adding the SiI 3112 controller to an existing Windows XP installation
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--
Follow the instructions in this section to install the Silicon Image SiI
3112
driver on a system already running Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

1. Click Windows [Start], then move the mouse to stay on [Settings].

2. Click [Control Panel].

3. Double Click [System].

4. Click [Hardware] tab.

5. Click [Device Manager].

6. Right Click [RAID CONTROLLER] under [Other Devices], then click
[Properties].

7. Click [Driver] tab.

8. Click [Update Driver].

9. Choose [Install from a list or specific location].

10. Click [Next].

11. Choose [Include this location in the search].

12. Click [Browse] to specify the file path where the driver is,

e.g. "X:\Drivers\Si3112"( X is the drive you put the support CD).

13. Click [Next].

14. Click [Finish].

The update may baulk at the older version, but I have seen posts relating to
this although the exact procedure may work out to be slightly different to
the text above... persevere and I'm sure it'll work out.

Afterwards check that you have the latest version of the Asus system BIOS,
version 1006 is the latest, and you may want to adjust the settings on
Windows automatic update to only notify you when new downloads are available
rather than automatically downloading.

Hope that helps

Ravi

I've thought some more on this issue and I'm not sure how far the previous
suggestion of the 'update' driver will get you. So you could also try
these -

Open Device Manager/ Right-click Silicon Image Controller/ Properties/
Driver/ Roll Back driver

Or, Use System Restore to restore a time before the update.

Or, if XP is on a different drive/array, uninstall the drivers and
re-install the earlier drivers.

Post an update when you can.

Hope some of this helps
