Please suggest solutions to this situation :

I have a P4 2Ghz, 1GB ram system with 120GB Maxtor Hard Drive installed. (
all was fine till )
1. one day computer crashed and reported bad sectors, Maxtor sent a
replacement.
2. I used Win xp pro cd to format the new drive, ( primary slave, active )
and installed win xp.
3. Upon restarting, it booted to the old win xp, on old hd, ( after changing
the jumpers, New HD, master and Old HD slave )
4. At this point I posted to this newsgroup and someone suggested I can't
have two active partitions, so I used partition magic 8.0 and used the
option to convert the partition on old drive, ( just one 120gb) to logical.
5. Partition magic restarted the computer and crashed while doing that,
about 39% was done.

Now the problem :

I restarted the computer and it tries to boot from the old drive, ( Old
drive = slave, new drive = master ) and hangs up right from the os selection
screen.

If I remove my old drive, and keep the new only master it boots perfectly.

I need to get very important data from the old drive.
1. Old won't boot by itself, ( hangs up )
2, If I put old drive as slave then it tries to boot from it and hangs
again.

Please help !!!!
