I have a Dell Inspiron 7000 laptop which has the factory-installed 56K
Lucent Win Modem (model LF560LHV). I recently upgraded the operating
system, using a clean installation, to Windows XP Pro.
Now, the modem seems a little slow at downloading and connecting. It's
using Driver Version 5.0.0.2 (found under Control Panel | Phone and Modem |
Modems | Properties | Driver) and File Version 8.23 (found under Control
Panel | Phone and Modem | Modems | Properties | Driver | Driver Details).
I searched around and found what seems to be the latest driver on the Agere
web site, V 8.28. When I start to install the driver, Windows XP tells me
that the latest driver is already installed.
Should I go ahead and install the new driver anyway? Or should I just leave
things as they are?
Also, I don't get any audio through the speakers when the modem is dialing
(the modem speaker volume is set to high in modem properties and in the
connection properties).
