I recently bought an ECS L7S7A2 motherboard and installed ym
stuff on it. I discovered that from the onboard sound the left
channel is not working. No matter what I plug in, it won't work.
I have tried several different sets of speakers and headphones,
on all of them the left speaker won't work.

The strange part is that if I enable 4 or 6 channel audio on my
mobo (I am therefore supposed to plug another set of speakers
into other jacks) on ALL of the speaker sets the left speaker
won't work.

Could this be because of the software? I'm running win xp pro,
and the proggie that came with the motherboard reports directx
8.1 instead of 9 which dxdiag reports.

Check volume control and see that the balance slider is not set to the
right channel. Otherwise, swap the right/left channel connectors and
see if the problem changes to the right channel out. If so, it's the
audio cable.

Sometimes the I/O template cover is too thick to allow for full
insertion of the audio plug. You may have to replace the template
or make the hole larger where the motherboard audio jack sticks out
so that you can push the plug all the way in. Try it without the
cover to see whether that is the problem.
