Article 187222 in Knowledge Base provides solutions for
this problem in Win 98 but it recurs in XP: if you clear
the "Animate windows when minimizing and maximising"
checkbox in Control Panel \ System \ Advanced tab \
Performance settings \ Visual effects (or clear the "Use
the follwing transition effect ..." box in Properties \
Appearance \ Effects after right-clicking the desktop), the
box is rechecked when you next start up; in other words the
user's setting is overridden by the time the next session
begins.

Does anyone know a solution to the problem in XP?

Andrew;

MS Word 2002 changes my Effects when open for a period of time.
i.e. Right click Desktop | Properties | Appearance tab | Effects button |
It places a gray checkmark in Use the folowing effect for menus and
tooltips.

Do you have MS Word and does it start when you boot your machine??

Hope this helps. Let us know.
