View Full Version : Unallocated drive on new install

I've installed XP using FAT32, but an old disk I
took out of my old box (also running XP) shows up
in the device manager but not under "My Computer".
When I use disk management, it sees the drive, but
says it is "unallocated". How do I get this drive
mounted under some letter designation and "allocated"
so I can get to the files that are there?

Thanks in advance,

Linda

Right-click on MY COMPUTER and select MANAGE.
Click on DISK MANAGEMENT and in the lower right-hand
window (gray shaded area), right-click on your second drive=20
and select INITIALIZE DISK.

If that does not work:

Go to Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter.
In the Command Prompt window, type: DISKPART , hit enter.
Then type: RESCAN , hit enter.
Try initializing the disk again.
