I am looking at low end machines and the ones I am looking at say they have
a 865G chipset. Is the 865G chipset a good one? Is there something else I
should be looking for? How much of a difference will it make for low end
type applications such as office and internet?

Hello

Does not matter any board will work just fine for you ok
do a search on google.com for mother brds few are from
Asus, Abit, Soya, Iwill, Intel, Gigabyte, etc.
