Blank Image from Cam

I now have only blank images from my cam .. not black ..
blank. I have tried 2 different cams, uploaded all the
latest drivers, tried both USB ports, removed and
reinstalled .... no change. My printer/scanner works in
both ports. Prior to this it worked fine, then I had some
rebooting problems which I think were due to overheating,
during the process of troubleshooting that I download
everything Windowns Update said I needed, including direct
X 9, I know have 5 unknown devices in device manager and
my cam wont work. Any help would be appreciated !

First thing is remove those unknown devices, then check that all your
devices are recognized in device manager. If not you will have to install
them manually.

I have done that, but as soon as I do, XP refinds them and
reinstalls them, the only thing I can do is disable them,
which I have done. I would install them only I dont know
what they are, they have the yellow question mark, I think
those devices appeared as a result of loading the update
for TV or DirectX.
