I had a system w/ Win XP Pro & IIS 5.1, plus all the relevant service
packs and patches. It sites behind a router/firewall. While
attempting to get a Web Site up and accessible, the machine got
trashed.
I do not recall the exact sequence of events, but I believe it was
after some error showed up (a SCSI card was involved in that one), and
I inserted a anti-virus "rescure disk" in and booted. That was the
LAST successful reboot on THIS system!
I can go into BIOS setup, but when booting up, it stops after the
prelinminary stuff at the point where the OS should kick in. It just
sits there. If the HD is first, there is simply a blinking cursor in
the upper left; if a Floppy is first, it simple says, "Starting xxx
OS" on a blank screen.
There are no error messages of any kind.
Could it be that the Master Boot Record is gone? It doesn't get very
far once it is time to read the disks.
Any ideas? (PleasE do not suggest I install something--until I can
boot the computer. :-) )
Thanks,
MichaelGG
