Hardware installation

When I access Add New hardware under Control Panel I get
the message that I am trying to perform Two Device
installations at the same time. Of course the situation
is that I am not trying to do thsi and thus I
am "screwed" when it comes to adding a new modem for
example. The "add New Hardware Wizard is not available to
me neither does the new Hardware detected "program" work.

Any suggestions out there?
