Your question will be best answered by going to Microsoft© Newsgroup. The link is below.

P.S.
There have been people asking that question in the newsgroup.

Not really. All I could find out is that you don't 'need' SP1 to install SP2
and SP2 includes post SP1 fixes. Nothing about whether you need to keep the
SP1 CD or whether it, along with everything else, is included in SP2.

Here's what MS had to say about SP2 for Windows 2000.

"
Q. Does Windows 2000 SP2 include all the fixes that were included in SP1?

A. Yes, Service Packs are cumulative, which means Windows 2000 SP2
includes all SP1 fixes."

Chances are the same applies to XP.

If you won't 'need' SP1, then SP2 will include all of SP1 that hasn't
been rewritten in SP2. MS is not gonna purposefully open old holes with
their upcoming Service Pack. By accident, who knows yet?

And I'd keep the SP1 CD at least until you know that SP2 ain't gonna
flake out on you. You never know!

All SPs are cumulative, meaning SP2 will contain the fixes/enhancements
included in SP1. However, I would hang onto your SP1 install source in
case SP2 breaks things on your machine.
