View Full Version : RePost-DVD Drive/DVD Play Question

There seems to be some confusion re: the use of audio cables and
ribbon cables for DVD [movie] playback in XP.

I believe that a dedicated digital audio cable from DVD drive to mobo header
is NOT required. (And that all data - video and sound - will travel through
the IF ribbon). Further, I say that a 40-wire cable is fine...although an
80-wire cable will do no harm.

Others say that a dedicated audio cable is recommended, but not *required*.
And still others say that an 80-wire IF cable is NOT recommended. (Perhaps
there is a crosstalk issue?)

So I'm looking for additional feedback, please. Oh - and I'd also like to
know if it is suggested, or *mandatory* to enable the "Digital Output Only"
[for sound] on the DVD drive.

TIA
Ron
