Hello, please excuse my computer un-savvyness. I tried to
install the new "critical security" patch for Windows XP
and was told that my cryptographic service needed to be
checked to make sure it is on. I dont even know what a
cryptographic service is? Please help!

Cindy --
1. Start the Administrative Tools utility in your Control Panel.=20
2. Double-click Services.=20
3. Right-click Cryptographic Services, and then click Properties.=20
4. Click "Automatic" for Startup type, and then click Start.=20
5. Try installing the Updates again. If the problem persists, go to =
Step 6.=20
6. Click Start, and then click Run.=20
7. In the Open box, type: CMD , and then click OK.=20
8. At the Command Prompt, type (or Copy & Paste) the following =
commands,=20
pressing ENTER after each line:
net stop cryptsvc
ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2
net start cryptsvc
Type EXIT to close the command prompt, and then install Windows =
Updates again.
