i keep having a problem with my xp system where it
freezes up but upon restart it starts like normal,
without running a disk check.my question is could this be
due to recent high temperatures in the uk? can the cpu
cut out at certain temperatures etc,i have a temnerature
monitor and my main board is 24c cpu is 49c and my hard
drive 59c.
i havent instaled any new software and system restore
doesnt cure this.

High temperatures can cause such problems and the increase in ambient
temperature here in the UK recently has obviously had an effect on PC
internal temperatures. I would say though that the temperatures that you
list are unlikely to cause any problems unless you have a faulty component.

I cannot give the precise temperature thresholds without knowing the exact
details of the hardware you have, but as an example, the AMD Athlon MP
processors that I currently use are rated in excess of 90 degrees C.
Recently one of my processors did in fact develop a fault, but even then did
not cause my system to freeze until the processor temperature exceeded
around 70 degrees C.
