I just upgraded Windows from 98SE to XP Home. I have
resolved everything but a message I receive when booting
up "Windows cannot find
c:\WIndows\System\Tools\LostRun.exe.Make sure you typed
the name correctly.................."
Can anyone help me get rid of this message? An email
would be appreciated.

Remove the LOSTRUN.EXE entry from your startup settings. Applications
that start with Windows can be found here:
- the WIN.INI, section [windows], entries "run=" and "load="
- the Registry keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunServices
- the folders
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\{username}\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
See also "How to Troubleshoot By Using the Msconfig Utility in Windows
XP" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310560).

Hi Mike,

That is because there isn't a Folder under System32 named Tool.

Two options/checkpoints: Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to these
keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\RunOnce

If LostRun.exe is listed, delete it. If it isn't go to:
C:\Windows\System32 add the folder Tool and then add LostRun.exe inside of
it.
