I made a dumb mistake. I was modifiying the background
theme and accidently changed all color to black. Now I
cannot change anything {I can't see anything} (change it
back) because the only thing that shows up on my screen
are the icons -- then when I open a windows window it's
all black. I know the functionality is still there
because when I click in the right hand corner of the black
box, it will close. The only reason that I can see some
black boxes is that it kept a fairly small background
picture where I had it centered on the desktop. If I
hadn't had that picture there, It would have been a
totally black screen.

Is there someway to reset these to defaults in bios or
something???? What if I started in Safe Mode -- would
that help. Why on earth would windows even allow you to
do such a dumb thing??

Try the following in Safe Mode or by logging in to the default =
Administrator account.

Create a one-line batch file (text file with a .bat extension) with the =
following command:

C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\Luna\luna.msstyles

Place the batch file in your startup directory (C:\Documents and =
Settings\Keith\Start Menu\Programs\Startup)

Then when you log in, the display properties dialog will be launched =
with the default XP style selected. Pressing <Enter> should apply it =
and you should be back in business.
