I got this error too but made things worde - i disabled

I have lost my windows xp installation disk but out of
despair bought a new pc but want to retrieve some v
important files please help if you can
I have with the new pc a windows xp disk - so i tried
installing with the certificate number on my old pc but
it does not complete installation - it gives an error 426
and now wehn i reboot it keeps trying to reinstall and
falls over with an error 426
Please can someone clever rescue me
Thankyou in advance

Tony;
Reenable RPC if it was disabled.
Start the Recovery Console.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;307654&
Type "Enable RPCSS Service_Auto_Start" ENTER
Type "exit" ENTER

You may have to manually remove the MSBLAST worm.
1) press Ctl-Alt-Del and click the Processes tab. Select "msblast.exe"
and kill it.
2) search C:\Windows\system32 for msblast.exe and delete it.
3) run regedit.exe and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run
4) delete the key "windows auto update" with the value "msblast.exe"
Now if you reboot, things should work, but you're vulnerable until you
firewall your system (use the XP firewall on the connectoid Advanced
tab) and get all the critical updates you are missing.
