View Full Version : CD-RW Driver Error 39

Back when I first installed my HP cd-writer cd-rw it came
with some software that turned out to not be compatible
with XP. Even after removing it I always got a dialog
when starting up saying a driver was being disabled.

A while back I thought I had tracked it down so I renamed
a file. Sure enough the dialog quite coming up, but
apparently I haven't used my CD since, until now when I
noticed it isn't listed in Explorer any more.

When I go to Control Panel >> System and look at the
drivers it has a yellow "!" next to it. I have tried
uninstalling it and reinstalling etc, but it always says
it can't find a more up to date driver. But then when it
is loaded again I get the yellow "!" and it says the
driver is missing or corrupt?

I can''t find the original file that I renamed, and I
can't find any drivers on HP's site.

At this point I have no idea how to get it working again.
Any help appriciated.

"CD-ROM Drive or DVD-ROM Drive Missing After You Install Windows XP"

(applies to other causes than installing XP)

or search Google Groups. You may get a few (thousand) hits.

Thanks Bob I think it ended up being a link off of one of
these pages that got me going. I had to reinstall some of
the cdwriter software after I was done and have got my
popup message back but at least the drive is working.
