Desk top won't come up

After I boot up my notebook with XP It says to click user
name, Problem is there is not a user name to click on,
which way to I go.
I have a turn off button that works, and on the other side
I have after log on go to control panel, direction. This
does nothing. I am using a fresh installation, and was
working fine. What do I need to do? confused
I saw the directions to Run type in control userpasswords2
etc. Do I need to this with a safe mode start up. Or how
do I get to control start option, so I can type this in
the run.
Thanks
This site has come through so many times for me.

Check in TweakUI > Logon if the users are disabled here. TweakUI is
available from
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp.
To logon to your PC, press CTRL - ALT - DEL twice and then type in
username and password.
