I have XP installed and every USB mass storage deviceI
plug into it is installed but for some reason I never get
drive letters assigned. I have a key chain drive that
works fine in other pc's, an MP3 jukebox that shows up as
a drive letter in other pc's and have tested a friends key
chain drive. There do not appear to be driver issues as
all these devices work fine on other 2000 and XP
computers. Any ideas?

With the device in the machine, go to Control Panel/Administrative Tools/
Computer Management / Disk Management and see if the device shows up there,
and whether you can manually assign a drive letter.

I have the same problem with a Micro Advantage 128 Mb Quick Drive. The
System Administrator recognizes it and assigns it drive letter I:\ but
nothing shows up in the My Computer group. I had to create a desk top short
cut to access it and write to it. What a nuisance! However, when I plug it
into my wife's computer running XP home, as is mine, the drive shows up in
My computer with no problem.

Any ideas how to approach a fix here would be appreciated.

I had this exact same problem on my office machine with a Lexar jump drive.
I could see it in device manager, but neither "explorer" nor "my computer"
would show it, but it worked fine at home and on my laptop.

It turned out that it wanted the next available drive letter after my CD/RW
(G:) and DVD/CD (H:). But, I had mapped network drives that used (I:),
(J:), and (K:). When I remapped these to (K:),(L:), and (M:) it magically
appeared as drive (I:)!
