XP slow to install and also to use

Installing XP Home takes over 2 hrs to install from cold
boot.
It seems when the computer warms up the system is slower
and hangs at times when using.
If I reset, it doesnt get past the Win XP start screen and
ends up at a blue screen after 10 mins with an error.

Ive done a compatability H/ware check and all is fine.

Running Win 98 has no trouble.

My System setup is:
933 PIII
256 Ram
40 Gig Maxtor HDD
MSI 6337LE5 M/Board (Intel i815 chipset)
Soundblaster Live Sound Card

Any help would be greatly appreciated, (cause soon I wont
have any hair left)

The details of the error message would have helped to diagnose the problem?

You might also want to check the Event Viewer for possible information.

Go to start/Run and type eventvwr.msc and press OK. Click the 3 menu
items on the left and look for any "X" error messages. Double click the
error entry to see the details.

Go to Start/Run and type msinfo32 and press OK. Click Components/Problem
Devices to check for possible hardware problems.

Gday Ron,
Thanks for your reply,

I shall try your recomended answer though under Sys Tools
there are no Problem Devices.

The error reads:
STOP: 0x0000007E
(0xC0000006,0x806819F3,0xF9E49704,0xF9E49404)

I have reinstalled again and though I havent had the blue
screen yet (But can still take up to 10 mins to boot),
after a short while it hangs then the screen goes black
and the only way out is to turn off.

I realised I didnt mention the Nvidia GForce 2 400 MX vid
card installed, maybe this is part of the problem though
as stated before Win 98 works fine with the system.
Will let you know how it goes.

Thanks for your help Ron,
Though didnt find a solution yet. I think it may be a
memory issue as Ive removed cards, tried different hdd etc.
