I have tried twice to send an attached HP created .PDF
file to My 78 year old father who has a HP 2.2 mghz
celeron running XP home with 384 megs of ddr memory His
service provider is Mindspring .
In both instances he indicates that he cannot open or
save the .pdf attachment. I have sent .doc files as
attachments which he has no problem to save, open, or
print. When I run through the attachment opening and
saving procedures over the phone he indicates that after
right or left clicking or double clicking (we tried them
all) on the Paperclip, he does not get any reaction at
all. No dialogue windows opens as does on my XP Pro
machine.
Trying to get older folks to accept using these machines
is difficult if the machines don't work as easy as they
claim to . Has anyone else experienced this particular
problem? If so how was it solved.

Can he use the File/Save Attachments menu?

Does he have Adobe's Acrobat Reader installed on his machine and is his
version current enough to open your version of the .PDF file? This is the
common program used to open a .PDF file. How are you creating the .PDF
file?
Download latest version here

On your dad's computer. In Outlook Express, go Tools, Options, Security,
there you will find a box marked "Do not allow attachments to be saved or
opened that could potentially be a virus". If this has a check get rid of it
and try again to send PDF.

A PDF is not likely to be blocked by security settings and
his father can open, save and print WORD .doc files which
can carry viruses.
Most likely, Dad doesn't have the PDF Reader installed.
