Installation Problems

My dad bought the XP upgrade and it freezes up on him at
the Installing Windows screen with anywhere between 16-18
minutes remaining. He has an HP computer but I dont know
what version of windows he had before. I took the disc
out and turned the power of and on again so he could play
his games but the xp screen came back on and said to
insert disc . I did and it went down to 18 minutes and
froze up again, Any suggestions would be appreciated.
