i recently installed an adaptec 2940uw scsi card and a HP
scanjet 5p flat bed scanner in my presario 4403us (1.4 ghz
proc, 512 mb ram, 60 gb hd)running xp home edition, when i
test scanner in control panel or try to run HP calibration
software i get "scanner communication problem". windows
sees my scsi card and my scanner an reports they are
working, however the scsi card and my sound card both
share IRQ-17 and device manager reports this as a conflick.
when i try to change IRQ windows won't let me. I am
computor adminstrator and this is my personel computor.

help someome please.

Two things come to mind... First is to change PCI slots so that the board
will assign different IRQ's for these cards. Don't just exchange slots with
the two cards as this would defeat the purpose!

Some SCSI cards have jumpers on them to set an IRQ (SCSI is not my strong
suite so I do not know about your particular card). If this is the case
then try changing the resources used by the controler card.

There is a third and more teduious option of going into CMOS and assigning
IRQ's to slots manually. I would try the other two options first as not all
MBs support assigning IRQs to individual slots.

Good Luck,
Len
