Hey all,

is there a way to format drive C:\ under Windows XP Home Edition? I've done it only with great trouble and Win98 boot disk, don't really remember how, too long ago, it was kind of hard, and worst, not covered in the help, at least I didn't find it.

Thanks in advance,
Etienne

Hi,

If C is the partition housing the system, then it can only be formatted =
by booting the WinXP CD and formatting as part of the installation =
process. You cannot format the drive housing WinXP while WinXP is =
running.

You can use the Recovery Console. Take this link
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm look for How To Format

yes there is. when you turn the computer on hold the Delete button till the BIOS control screen appears.
choose the option thats called Primary BIOS functions or something like it.
select Primary Boot Device and choose CDROM.
press Esc to return to main bios page then choose Save and Exit, which will restart the computer.
as the computer restarts it will show Boot from cdrom, then prompt you to boot from cdrom by pressing enter or spacebar..
this boots from the xp cd instead of your HD and will ask several questions on what you want to do.
to reinstall windows its easiest to delete the existing partion then create a new partition to install xp onto.
beware as this will erase all data on your hard drive.

hope thats what you needed.
