View Full Version : Latest Messenger - No video / audio

Hi there,

Newbie to Messenger here, but I should be up to date. I've downloaded
the latest Messenger from MSN. Using Charter Broadband. I do
audio/video setup with no problem. There's the audio, there's the
video. Great. I try to open a video conference to someone, and I get
nothing but the happy icon guy with the pip over his shoulder. I'm
expecting I should at least see my picture-in-picture somewhere, but
nothing.

I'm running xp with latest updates. Linksys 54gwrt with latest
firmware. Universal Plug n Play enabled on Router, as I've read.
Zone Alarm is off. My connections page in Messenger says "You are
connected to the internet through a UPnP port restricted NAT."

I'm at a loss. I can't imagine people in the freakin' future will
ever get anything done, because they'll spend 2 weeks trying to figure
out why they can't webcam someone else for god's sake.

Anybody give me some insight? Typing chat works fine, but who wants
to do that? Went out and bought the camera just so I could make this
work.

Thanks!

oj

Go to www.meetingbywire.com and there you will find much information about
NetMeeting and some on Messenger; however, all of the connection information
is applicable to Messenger.

Hi,

Well, according to this:
http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2001/Jul01/07-17GatewayDevicesPR.asp

I think I should be fine. I have UPnP on my router, and an internet
gateway icon in my network places.

That site seems pretty out of date...
