I have a new dell 5150 laptop w/ xp pro, 1 gig ram/60 gig
HD. I have installed the latest SP and windows updates.
Plugging in either my buslink 128 thumb drive or my sony
dsc-p1 digital camera show up when windows finds new
hardware and they show up in the tray to remove either of
them and both the camera and thumb drive show up in the
Device Manager under USB controllers. I tried
uninstalling the devices, rebooting and plugged them both
in again and went through "installing new hardware" but
again they don't show up in My Computer under Devices
with Removable Storage. I don't know if this is a
software fix, but under Windows Update, I've got all the
updates released so far. I called Dell cust. service and
they said its a Microsoft issue since the usb ports are
recognizing the usb devices. Also, under USB device
properties, the device status shows the device(s) are
working properly. Anything I might try next?
thanks
