View Full Version : Copying XP CD

I have a legit and activated copy of XP Home. As with all my other original
CDs, I would like to make a copy for safety. Is the XP copy-protected, and
if so, how may it be copied? I have copied the originals using both Easy CD
and CD Clone, but both seem to 'burp' at some point in the copying process,
leading me to think the original is copy-protected. Obviously, I can't test
the copies since that would mean I would be re-installing. Anyone have an
answer?
Thanks,

Hi,
It's not copy protected and you should be able to make one for the exact =
purpose you state. In fact I recommend this. Try slowing down the burn =
speed and make sure you dump any temp files. Disabling AV software can =
help as well.

I forgot to mention, make an image then burn the image. Do not copy on the
fly.

Try getting a program such as Clony XXL to see how the cd is protected and
burn accordingly with Nero or Fantom.

I copied it to my HD and then did a NERO burn - Worked a treat.

Same basic idea, there always seems to be errors when copying on the fly. I
have two burners and a cdrom and still burn from an image or temp directory.

You can also slipstream SP1 into the copy fairly easily.

The XP CDs are not copy protected. You should burn at a slow speed, use the
Disk Copy option rather than simply copying contents and if possible create
and image on the drive to burn rather than an on-the-fly copy.

also...
To test your copies use CDCheck to compare the copied CD to the Original CD
