file names

I am new to XP and I can't see how I can change an option
to see file extensions within folders. This is hampering
me in creating associations and opening files with the
correct program. Please Help!

Go to Tools-Folder Options-View and make sure that the box "Hide Extensions
for Known File Types" is NOT checked. You can then apply that to all folders
if you so desire.
