You need a dual-boot facility to choose at start up
between Windows 98 or XP. Since you have XP running
already, it is best to create a multi-boot system. This
is moderately complex, and described in MS Knowledge Base
article 306559. It is best to make sure your XP is up-to-
date with service packs and fixes before continuing.

Once you have XP with dual-boot, you can install W98 as a
second startup uptions. Then, you should be able to copy
data files from your W98 disk.

Be aware that W98 uses FAT32 disk partitions while XP
prefers NTFS. It is possible to run XP on FAT32, but you
loose a lot of functionality and security.

This means that if XP boots, it can see NTFS or FAT32
partitions, but W98 can only see FAT32 partitions.
