Hi

My Windows XP takes up to 20 minutes to shut down. I have
disabled the exit sound (in case it was a corrupt sound
file) I have lowered the shutdown time in the registry.

When I selct "Shut Down" it stays on the blue screen for
about 20 minutes before eventually going to the black
screen where it tells you that it is now safe to turn off
your computer. It then shuts down ok. I have noticed that
about every 5-6 minutes there is some disk activity while
all this is going on.

Everything alse runs fine with the operating system, its
only the shutdown that is causing me problems. I have
checked it with an up to date virus scan (Nortons) and
there are no signs of virus.

Any Ideas?

Thanks

Hi,

Try disabling Norton's before initiating shutdown (hit ctrl+shift+escape and
end Norton's various executables on the processes tab), see if that helps.
If it does, then it's an issue you should take to symantec support. If not,
see if the troubleshooters from MVP Jim Eshelman help:
