View Full Version : Need Help with MultiMonitor Question!

Later this week I am presenting a computer class to a group of ladies and I
have the need to use the 'DualView' feature of XP Home Addition. I have
added a second PCI video card (Multimedia PG80, SIS 6326) in addition to the
on-board video. I wish to use an older (not PNP) 14" Panasonic monitor
which, for my purposes, will be OK since I plan us use it as the 'master'
and a 17" ViewSonic A70 monitor for the class.

The problem is, after I plugged the PCI card into the mother board, the
on-board video does not seem to be responding any longer. If I attach the
ViewSonic monitor to the on-board port I get no display but it works OK on
the PCI card. When I plug the 14" monitor into the PCI card it seems to
work OK but neither will show a display from the 'on-board' port.

Am I missing something obvious? Is there something that I am doing wrong?
Isn't Home Addition compatible with 'DualView'? I have checked the BIOS and
all seems to be correct there. The 'system' no longer list the on-board
video system if I am looking at the correct 'hardware' data.

Any thoughts and/or help will be greatly appreciated. It will make life a
lot simpler for both me and the little class.

Thank you,
Cal

Not all video cards will allow dual monitors/dual video cards..
I have even seen newer PCI ATI cards not work in a system in the manner you
are wanting..

Try a different card.

Hi Cal,

95% of the time, you cannot mix an on-board video with an add-on card =
(PCI or AGP). You appear to be in this category. You will need either =
two PCI cards, or one with a dual monitor output.

For what it's worth (to Cal), I do use my Dell's built in Intel adapter plus
an nVidia PCI card and both are happy. As you say though, some PCI cards
will provide multiple monitor service while others won't. An older Creative
Labs PCI adapter I had would not work.

Microsoft talks about which will work in their Knowledge Base Article 296538
which is found here:

Good luck Cal...
