Just upgraded to a new machine with XP-Pro from 98SE. I
am successfully installing all my peripherals and PDA
cradles with one exception. There is no support for my
Xircom Rex6000. There is Win2000 support but no XP, and
there is not going to be an update. Can I install the
Win2000 drivers? There are known issues with the USB
cradle: Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 299371, When
you upgrade a computer that has a Xircom Rex 6000
installed that uses the universal serial bus (USB)
cradle, you may receive the following error message when
the computer starts in Windows XP for the first time:
A Fatal System Error has occurred: 0x000000be
(0x80129768,0x00129121,0xF96A4754,0x0000000B)
This error may also occur if you connect the USB cradle
for the Xircom Rex 6000 to a computer that is running
Windows XP, and then you begin the installation process
during the hardware identification phase. This type of
error is generated only when you use the USB port.
So, can I use the old drivers and installation software
with a serial cradle instead of the USB cradle? The
serial port is already in use, can I instal two devices
to it with a spliter adapter? Is there any workaround
that allows me to use the USB cradle, like forcing the
computer into a 98SE mode?
Thanks In Advance,
Andrew
