Question: When a DVD disk is burned, can it be rewritten again (burned
again) ? IS it R/W after all or is it like R/W or absolutely NOT.

Hello Alvin,
Are we talking about same thing?
I am talking about dvd disks that is writeable. like CD/RW. Can the burning
software be used on DVD R/W?
If disks that can be burned once are DVD CDROM RAM ones, I am behind. Me
another moron?

Since DVD ROM or CD ROM drives are not in my interest,
I consider purchasing DVD+RW (re-Writeable) from Hewlett Packard or Sony
just because they are writeable (over and over). What are the advantages of
DVD-RAM over DVD- recorders i.e, in gig size and possibly speed? But it
should not be my concern.
Another ques: Can cd-rw disks be used on the drive? I doubt; i am asking
this question since I have unused CD-RW disks.

Hello Alan, I have the Sony DRU-500A DVD recorder.
As I understand it, stand-alone DVD players and maybe regular DVD-ROM drives
can't read the DVD-RAM discs.
As far as CD-RW discs, yes, at least this particular drive, can read and
write to CD-RW discs.

Hello Nathan,
I understand generally that stand alone DVD players and DVD- ROM cant read
DVD-RAM disks. When you mention stand alone, I am assuming it is
independent and not hooked to pc. It appears that at the present time I have
no reason to have a player.
Another ques:
If I want to make a copy of a DVD disk (movie already recorded on it), can
I put this into Sony recorder like yours to read to hard drive and then put
a blank disk into the same Sony recorder to write on. I am asking this
question because there is only DVD device involved. (I am assuming this is
possible, but it will comsume lots of hard drive space). Or it is not
possible. Would experienced ones recommend purchasing a DVD ROM drive to
read and DVD recorder to write without consuming hard drive? This way the
movie disk can be read while writing to recorder.
Thanks for the reply regarding Sony on CD-RW.
