There are two versions of Windows XP that you need to compare: Windows XP

When one refers to "XP Pro" they are referring to Microsoft Windows XP
Professional Edition.

As the others said, your choices are Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP
Professional. The major differences are in how they deal with joining
networks. Because of this, in addition to reading the reference Cheryl
gave, you probably should check with your school to see what kind of
networking they have and expect your computer to work with.

XP professional edition and microsoft windows XP Pro are two words for the
same thing, the two diferences are XP Home Edition and XP Professional
Edition

Home edition is cheaper!
