View Full Version : Strange Problem with CD Drives

I have a CD Drive (D:) and a DVD drive (E:). Whenever I
click on them on my desktop, my interface freezes. I am
able to bring up task manager with CTRL-ALT-DEL, but
that's about all. No indication of any trouble in Task
Manager - no processes running wild - but I finally
figured it HAD to be that EXPLORER had gummed up. I took
a chance and did END TASK on EXPLORER, then loaded it
again from the File menu in Task Manager. It came up fine
and was no longer frozen. But why does this happen, and
what can I do to prevent it?

Check your event log for CD bad blocks or IDE controller errors.
If there are lots of these messages, you need to clean your drives and/or disks.
If this won't help - replace the CD drive.
