I bought Windows XP in English edition. Can I change the
language from English to Chinese? How?

go to china, buy a copy of XP there in chinese , flog your copy on ebay.

Greetings --
You cannot upgrade or convert from one language version of the OS
to another, so you'll have to purchase and use the full version of
Chinese WinXP to perform a clean installation.

Not true. Original poster does not want to upgrade.
In some countries it is possible to exchange retail XP to other available language.
So just call your local MS sales and ask.
Also, XP has the MUI option that can be installed over English system.
