This is the deal: after three damn days of looking for an
answer to why my cd roms quit working, after many, many
hours of chasing my tail, I find that Windows XP is NOTED
for this little piece of devilery. Not saying what you
have is what I and many othres have expierenced, but if
it worked for me it may work for you. AND WRITE
MICROSOFT!!

uninstall your xp updates ie quick fixes from your addremove programs. Turn
off windows updates ie change to manual and kick yourself for trusting
microsoft patches.
