Any help would be appreciated with this stupid question.
I just purchased and put together a new computer system.
Everything is working ok expect that only one of my two
harddrives is accessable in Windows XP Pro.
I don't get it.
The first drive is a WD 40 gig IDE drive primary, master
drive and works fine.
The second drive is a WD 120 gig secondary master drive.
I have tried every configuration to get the OS to utilize
the drive.
The OS recognizes the drive and states that is
functioning properly, but won't let me access it.
I imagine that it's some minor thing i'm just missing but
this is driving me crazy!
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks...

In dual drive installations (2 devices on the IDE cable), jumper shunts=20
are needed to designate which device is master (first device detected)=20
and which is slave (second device detected).=20

See: http://support.wdc.com/techinfo/general/jumpers.asp

After setting the second drive to "slave" using the correct jumper =
setting:

Right-click on MY COMPUTER and select MANAGE.
Click on DISK MANAGEMENT and in the lower right-hand
window, right-click on your drive and select INITIALIZE DISK.

--=20

Did you create partitions on the 120 gig drive and format those partitions?
You can't use the drive until you do.

Right click on "My Computer". Then go to manage/disk management. Look for
your drive. Does it show a partition and does it say healthy? If not, right
click on the drive, click on format, and follow the prompts. If you want to
have the whole drive as 1 partition, you must use the NTFS file system. If
you use the fat32 file system you are limited to a 32 gig maximum size -
make 3-4 smaller (equal) partitions.

I really appreciate your help!
I now have both drives working.
It's amazing how much time you can spend trying to fix
something and the solution is right in front of your face.
Thanks again,
