MSN Messenger & Unwanted window on startup

Two small problems

Firstly since installing service pack one two versions of MSN Messenger keep
opening with icons appearing on the taskbar. One is version 5 & the other
4.7. I've tried the add/rempove programs to get rid of the old version but
only version 5 appears on the list. Any ideas on how to uninstall the old
version. Can I just delete the entire directory?

Secondly, on boolt up a my computer window appears with the path C:Program
files\Common. The only contents of this folder is another folder called Bin
which contains the following files - iviaudio.ax, ivivideo.ax & ivinav.ax.
For the life of me I can't find whats opening the window. I've tried the
system configuration utility & the startup menu without luck. Can anyone
point me in the right direction.

Any help much appreciated.

To disable "Windows Messenger":

Open "Windows Messenger" and from the Toolbar select
Tools > Options > Preferences and uncheck:

"Run this program when Windows starts" and
"Allow this program to run in the background", then
click OK.

Next, open Outlook Express and from the Toolbar select
Tools > Options and under the General tab uncheck
"Automatically log on to Windows Messenger" and click
APPLY.

Finally, reboot your computer and your issue is solved.

Thanks for th info but.........
I've run the fix to remove common tasks from desktop but I just get a
message telling me that "The value below is correct, no repairs needed" &
the problem is still there. So, I guess something else must be causing the
problem.

On the messenger problem hardly any of the menu options seem to work,
including tools, options. I can select the option but nothing happens.
It's not the end of the world now I realise the difference and can live with
this but would really like to sort the other problem.
