View Full Version : Messenger with Internet Connection Firewall

I use ICF and I want to be able to transfer files using
messenger. I found in help that I need to open as many TCP
ports as possible between 6891 and 6900. So I did that, but
I'm still unable to transfer files. Do I need to do
something else?
Also is there a complete list somewhere of the ports needed
by various messenger functions?
Thanks

if you are talking about using windows built in pile of sh#^ firewall I have
had some problems there too.
sometimes the windows firewall and messenger worked great together. usually
all I would get is a really slow transfer. I stopped using the windows
firewall till SP2 comes out. I have used a couple different free firewalls
that work so much better

SYGATE - http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm
I prefer the sygate firewall....both of which I have tested at
https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and both passed every time.

also with the sygate firewall you can set it to show you the ports that
programs are using so you could find out exactly what ports to open
