View Full Version : Windows Restricting 'Internet Options' Access

I recently had maintenance performed on my home computer
which involved reinstalling Windows XP. Since then, in
trying to access "Internet Options" on IE6, I get an
onscreen message stating "This operation has been
cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this
computer. Please contact your system administrator".
I'm the only user of this stand-alone computer, and am
listed as the so-called 'system administrator' in the
user group setup. How did these 'restrictions in
effect' get on my computer and, more importantly, how do
I get rid of them??

Could be group policy, go to start/run, type mmc and hit ok.
go to file/add/remove snap-in
add
double click group policy then finish
close and then OK
then have a browse around, pretty much every option should be not
configured, so I am guessing that some of yours will be configured. be
careful though, if you mess too much you could do some damage that you will
find difficult to undo

See www.dougknox.com, Win XP Fixes, Fix Internet Options Restrictions.
Additionally, this restriction can be caused by the "security" settings of
SpyBot Search and Destroy, if you're running this software. This is to,
supposedly, help prevent hijacking of your Home Page settings.
