Does anyone know a program that can tell what programs are eating a lot of
CPU usage? Recently after installing Mcafee Antivirus 7 or 8 and adware pro
i start my computer and its laggy. I have updated Antivirus and scanned for
virus's, nothing. Updated windowsxp a while ago, no new patchs out there.
Uninstalled Ad-aware, and disabled Mcafee. When i use the program End-It-All
my processor is back to normal. It isnt anything that starts up in the
system tray, already tried that. This hasn't happened until recently and ive
never once seen my mouse lag, but the past 2 days is the first time ever.
Thanks for any help.

I have this:
AMD 2500+
Abit NF7-S
1024mb Corsair XMS RAM
Western Digital Sata Hard drive (160GB)

What programs are out there that can find whats taking up all this damn
processor time. And what is a good temperature for a CPU to be when doing
basically nothing?

I always use Task Manager. It's built in and free.

try control-alt-del for task manager and look under processes tab

Only if the PC, and the OS were free, otherwise, it is not free.

Is it possible for programs to run in memory somewhere and not be reported
by Task Manager?

Also, there are dozens of little progs reported by TM, all with obscure
names. Short of looking each one up on Google, is there an easy way to tell
what they are? - like locating the exe or dll file where it comes from.

e.g.
pelmiced
mdm

I know what the first is for, but not the second.
