Has anyone had any experiences usuing Roxio's Go Back as a replacement for
Windows XP System Restore? Is it worth while?

Consider XP's System Restore as a very stripped-down version of
GoBack. GoBack's biggest advantage is that it runs outside of
Windows. If your system can't boot, you can't use system restore but
GoBack is accessible without Windows booting. The only disadvantages
I can see in using GoBack is the hard drive space it requires (Roxio
suggests 10% of your hard drive) to store it's files and it will
impact performance as it is always running and monitoring your system.

I have "Go Back" on a Win 98 machine for 3 years, an excellent product.

I also have an XP machine and have given "Go Back" a try but because of all
the background workings of XP I found "Go Back" to be accessing the hard
drive all the time !

With "Go Back" you can restore a file that was deleted a few days ago or
even restore your system to anytime within the past few days !

It is because of "Go Back" always accessing the hard drive with XP I have
decided not to continue with it (on XP) and rely instead on the XP system
restore.

You can obtain a 30 day trial version of "Go Back" from Roxio which won't
cost you anything and the program will automatically uninstal itself if you
don't want to keep it.

Incidentally I have heard that within the past couple of months "Go Back"
has been sold to Symantec, so you may be redirected.

Mike.

Thanks to Peter and Mike for their input. I have the trial version and it
installed without problems. It seems to be working well. There was allot of
disc activity at first but now seems normal. Haven't noticed any system
speed degradation so far.

Good news. Hope all is well and that you never have to make use of it
