I was verifing compatability and the message i received
was "XP setup does not support this change". Does this
mean that I need to migrate the applications manually? Is
this a show stopper?

You need the "retail, upgrade version" of Windows XP Professional
in order to upgrade over an existing Windows 2000 application.

You didn't say if this was a full or upgrade copy of XP Home but I
suspect it is. You can uae a full or upgrade copy of XP Pro but I
don't think XP Home will work on Windows 2000 Pro. Then again XP Home
is inferior to Windows 2000, so why would you want to try to move to
that?
