newsgroup newbie

I would greatly appreciate any help I can get from the experts of this
newsgroup.
In transferring a file, named BTM, from a floppy in my A: drive to my
desktop, I repeatedly get an error message: "Error Copying File or
Folder. Cannot copy BTM: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)."
BTM is Netscape 4.76 Messenger mail folder file with some stored
messages. I can read the contents of the file using Netscape 7.1 to
open the file. I don't know what a cyclic redundancy check is or what I
need to do to copy the file from my floppy drive to my hard drive.
I am using a Dell 2350 desktop and Windows XP. BTM was created on a
Windows 95 computer.
Thanking you in advance for any suggestions.
