connection problem

i have two computers. computer 1 runs xp pro computer 2 runs 98se. going
through router linksys nr041. i can access linksys site on 98se computer to
add addresses. xp pro computer gives error 401 unauthorized. the site is
192.168.1.1 Anyone have answer to this?
Both computers are IE6. Thanks. I have other questions on setup of
pcanywhere but need this first.

Hi Loren

First check whether the connections are fine to the Xp machine. Then goto
start--run--type " CMD"--Now type "IPCONFIG". Check whether you zare
getting an ip address in the range of 192.168.1.x and the default gateway
192.168.1.1. If you are getting an ip address in that range type ping
192.168.1.1 and see whether you are getting replies or request timeout.

If you are not able to get an ip address in the range of 192.168.1.x, then
go to start control panel network connection and right click on local area
network connection and go to properties. Click on TCP/IP and click
properties and in the ip address type in 192.168.1.x(any number between 2
and 255), subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and default gateway 192.168.1.1.

Now try to ping 192.168.1.1 and try to connect to the website
