View Full Version : Printer spool not running

Okidata C5100 laser printer
No matter what I try and do - add a printer, delete a
printer - set preferences I get the same error message:
Print spool service not running.
Unable to perform operation.
Also when I go through "XP Service" and enable (start)
print spool nothing happens.
I have tried deleting the files in the registry key like
Microsoft Knowledge base has said to. Then I try to use
the command prompt to "net start spooling," but nothing
happens when I hit enter and I can't type anything
anymore. I also can't add a printer because it
says "operation could not be completed" What else can I
try?

Go to the command prompt, and type
net start spooler
What is the error message that appears if it does not start?

You need to run a Repair Installation of XP. Somehow the Spooler Service
has been deleted. You're only the second person I've ever come across with
this problem in three years, so it is rare, but not unheard of.
