Hi,

My desktop previously had the Windows 98 version.
However, after upgrading the computer to Windows XP Home
Edition (so that I wouldn't lose my files), the CD drive
no longer reads CDs. What's going on?

Thanks,

Rafael R.

See "How to Troubleshoot Issues with Reading CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD
Discs" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=321641).

Try going into Device Manager and uninstalling it, then rebooting the
PC to re-install (especially if you see a yellow exclamation point
beside it). If that doesn't work, maybe you have a compatibility issue
with the drive itself. Then you might have to buy a new CD ROM. If you
look around in the Sunday paper, you can pick one for about $20.
