View Full Version : WinXP and Task Scheduler

Hi -
I am running WinXP home (OEM) on 256 MB 2.0 GhZ Intel celeron. This question
also concerns auto virus-scan with NortonAV 2003 and auto defrag (task
scheduler).
My situation - I do not use a windows password to log onto Windows.
However, apparently task scheduler requires a password in order to run apps?
Because I have never had my NAV scan the system without my telling it to do
so, and neither has maintenance wizard/defrag worked on a schedule. I look
in the scheduler window and see that it says something to the effect of
"task was not performed; no password" or just "task not performed
successfully." Any ideas on this??

Hi JBM,
See:
Scheduled Tasks Cannot Run with a Blank Password [Q310715]
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=3D310715
Also, from MVP Kelly (a workaround):
For Home: Backup your registry before modifying. Locate the following =
registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Lsa
Value name: limitblankpassworduse
Type: REG_DWORD
Data: 0 (disabled) 1 (enabled)
It is enabled by default. Disable it and scheduled tasks should run.
